How to Extend the Lifespan of Your Commercial Patio Umbrella

How to extend the lifespan of your commercial patio umbrella
Commercial patio umbrellas are exposed to fluctuating weather conditions every day. These umbrellas are built to be durable but that does not mean they can be neglected. A proper level of care and maintenance can help increase their lifespan substantially. Follow these maintenance tips from Poggesi to prolong the life of your commercial patio umbrellas.

Cover your patio umbrella

Using a protective cover for your commercial patio umbrellas can protect them from dust, harsh weather conditions and other external environmental factors. Covering it when not in use can also reduce the need for cleaning, thereby extending its lifespan too.

Clean your patio umbrella

Following these maintenance instructions from Poggesi to clean your commercial patio umbrella thoroughly. Clean your patio umbrella

Canopy fabric

Poggesi’s commercial patio umbrellas are made from Sunbrella® fabrics that are durable, stain-resistant and water-repellent. However, regular care and maintenance are important to ensure years of trouble-free use. Spray and rinse the entire canopy at least once a week to wash away dirt and dust. Use a mixture of warm water and mild soap and apply with a soft bristle brush to clean spots and stains, if any. Commercial patio umbrellas from Poggesi are manufactured from high-quality materials that do not promote the growth of mildew or mold. However, if the canopy is not cleaned well and contains foreign substances, it may lead to the growth of mildew. Prepare a mixture of ¼ cup mild soap and 1 cup of bleach for a gallon of water to counter this. Spray this on the mold, let it soak for a minimum of 15 minutes and clean it with a soft brush.

Base

The base of your commercial patio umbrella may be caked with mud, dirt or leaves as it is always in contact with the ground. Use soapy water with a soft sponge or cloth to clean it once a week. It is also recommended to cover up nicks and scratches with outdoor paint.

Dust

Use a non-abrasive soft brush to brush away dust at least twice a week.

Replace old parts before they break

Replace old parts before they break You must inspect the canopy, pole and base of your commercial patio umbrella to check for any damage or broken parts regularly. Poggesi recommends conducting a thorough inspection before spring and autumn when you set up and pack away the umbrella, respectively. The locking system and its parts such as the hitch pin much be checked to ensure the system is secure and working correctly. Keep an eye on all the parts of your umbrella and replace them as soon as they are damaged as this can cost you big bucks in the long run.

Store your umbrella when it won’t be used for long periods

At the end of summer, it is recommended to store away your Poggesi commercial patio umbrella, especially if you are not going to use it in colder weather conditions. Before storing it, wash the canopy with warm water and mild soap. Let it air-dry completely before collapsing and storing it in a protective cover. Ensure the area you store it in is well-ventilated and free of moisture to avoid the growth of mold and mildew. It is also recommended to store away your commercial patio umbrella in case of foul weather such as storms, high winds or hail.
