How to Clean Commercial Umbrellas

When it comes to the exterior of your establishment, be it a patio, a sidewalk, or a poolside, your commercial umbrellas are among the most noticeable features of the space and are therefore essential brand representatives. An effective care and cleaning regimen is thus crucial. Running a hotel or restaurant comes with a strict ethic of cleanliness and presentation. As an owner or manager of an establishment of this kind, you probably hold your staff to extremely high standards regarding cleaning and preparation. You want your spaces to be inviting for your customers and always to present your brand in an impeccable light. This ethic must extend to your outdoor areas. If entertaining guests on your pavement or poolside are a major part of your business, then these areas must be an extension of your interior space in every way. One of the most important ways to keep your exterior spaces looking good is to clean and care for your branded restaurant umbrellas, pool umbrellas, or hotel umbrellas. Umbrellas are designed to withstand the elements. Over time, exposure to sun, dirt, and grime can take its toll even on high-quality umbrellas. The solution to keeping them looking like new is to follow a systematic cleaning and maintenance routine. Here is a step-by-step process to help you keep your commercial umbrellas clean and in excellent condition.

Commercial umbrella cleaning instructions

To keep your umbrellas in excellent shape, have your cleaning and maintenance staff follow this four-step process:
  • Inspect each umbrella once every two weeks or so: Closely scan each umbrella’s canopy, center pole, and base. Check for any dirt or mold that might have taken root on the canopy. Check the pole for any dirt or grime, or other marks. Also, inspect the base for any dirt or stains that might have been left by food or beverage spills.
  • Brush away loose dirt and dust. Using a medium-bristled cleaning brush, lightly brush the canopy, pole and base, to clear away any dry dirt or dust that might have collected there.
  • Clean the base. Using soapy water and a non-abrasive sponge or soft cloth, wipe down the base and pole until no dirt remains.
  • Clean the canopy. Once a week, spray the canopy with a mild soap solution with lukewarm water. Allow the soap to soak in for a few minutes, and then rinse with clean water, wiping it gently with a soft cloth as you do. Then leave the canopy to dry naturally.
